Best gig: I'm fortunate that there's been many over the years, but doing the Allen & Company Media Summit is definitely one of them because of the V.I.P. factor. For six years, my team and I have been flown into Sun Valley, Idaho to entertain the families of the top CEO's and entertainment moguls in the country. After spending two weeks doing some epic whitewater kayaking and mountain biking, I would meet up with my crew and have a blast providing the entertainment for this uber-upscale summer outing.

Worst gig: Any event where someone in the crowd isn't there to celebrate.

As a DJ that puts emphasis on proper beat matching and mixing skills, how do you feel that adds to the atmosphere and production value of your events?
A great DJ doesn't necessarily equal a great event. However, when combined with an eloquent Emcee, smooth agenda pacing, and 'Johnny-on-the-Spot' hospitality, beat matching and mixing skills can take your guests' satisfaction to the next level. Many mobile professionals have the same music library, so song selection and programming can give you a significant edge. Besides, I have to live up to my license plate - RHYTHM.

You're known as one of the best-dressed DJ/entertainers in the business. Can you give us some sage fashion advice?
Go to Nordstrom's and ask for Ellen! An easy rule of thumb is to respect the host's dress code or dress for the occasion. When I'm in a professional setting or at a networking event, I want to be in an executive mindset. I rarely see my mentors in jeans and a t-shirt when they're meeting with prospects or new acquaintances. I'm also a big fan of GQ and Men's Health Magazine. They usually question people who think 'dressed up' is looking like the manager from Staples. Then again, when I'm at the condo in Costa Rica for a month, it's a pair of surf trunks and flip-flops! Balance your wardrobe and your life. Dress sharp, eat well and hit the gym.

Digital technology is taking over - have you started to incorporate effects boxes, music software programs or other elements into your performances?
Absolutely, I love SoundForge and Acid. Whether it's recording the Best Man's toast and playing it back as a custom ballad later in the evening or making a dancefloor friendly remix of a popular song that's been overplayed on the radio, elements like this have played an integral part of MMP's WOW-factor.

What does a line of products like Cortex represent to you as a DJ, the future of your company's business, and the industry at large?
I'm a firm believer that complacency is the enemy of progress. What I love about Cortex is that the Unit Software can constantly be updated. That's the frame of mind that's kept us in business all of these years and will hopefully contribute to our continuing success.
